 In 1989, Sherwood Hamill began to put his art and cabinetmaking background to use in furniture design. At a young and impressionable age growing up in Portland, Maine, Hamill had the opportunity to travel with his family to the 1964 New York Worlds Fair and later to Expo '67 in Montreal. Having been exposed and seduced by this "mechanical Eden" of modern architecture and design at an early age, the essence of modernism has remained potent and has become the basis on which the company was founded.
